i was thrilled when joe goddard asked if he could make an ep for the label and were even more thrilled when i heard it. the fact that he roped in the legendary kool keith to appear on one track just kept on bringing the thrills.
so gerd and philipp were due to play xoyo one saturday night and the club is 6 minutes from my studio so i suggested we go there first to make tunes for a few hours. we made 2 songs that night and one of them is ‘reach out’. gerd did the drums on my 808, philipp wrote the beautiful lead part on my obxa and i did the bass in my cs80. i added the words a couple of weeks later, they are inspired by leonard cohen’s letter to his muse marianne ihlen on her deathbed. for its 6th release on ed banger records busy p asked his longtime friend from los angeles mayer hawthorne to write a love song. while the world is going crazy, the only answer is love. the song was recorded between threesome studio in paris and mayer’s own in l.a. to complete this ep, we’ve asked uk’s finest producers. the mysterious kda who’s topping uk’s charts, delivers an infectious remix with mental drums and funky twist. hot chip’s main man joe goddard has been one of my favorite producer ever. it was about time to have him on board! reckonwrong dropped the hottest ep of 2015 on young turks sublabel whities. his remix is pure magic. exotic beats with techno flavours. last but not least, we went experimental on this one! this is the first flow machines remix. the goal of flow machines is to research and develop artificial intelligence systems able to generate music autonomously or in collaboration with human artists.
dj koze comes up to task for the next re-construction of michael mayer & joe goddards for you, following up from the re-interpretation by diynamics solomun and pachanga boys. the maverick of flawless productions develops two narratives for this remix package: the first is a club mix composed of layered, floor-raising chords while ruffling up the original vocals gradually and elegantly. the second is a mbira remix, filled with african-inspired percussive inklings and sprinkled with effortless melodic flourishes. with two accompanying instrumental versions, dj koze takes us to the final curtain, closing the end chapter to michael mayers acclaimed & project.

i am sure joe goddard needs no introduction, the co-founder of greco-roman and leading member of hot chip + one half of 2 bears releases this stunning 4 track ep. the title taking over is, as joe says: a reference to that moment when the music at a club starts to really hit you, when it forces you to focus on it and the night ahead. featuring collaborations with boris dlugosch and mara carlyle, taking over is an attempt to make synthesizers sound nice. the lead single from the ep is the step together which was premiered on the b traits (in for annie mac) on bbc r1 last friday. since that announcement step together has received more plays across the bbc networks. we have big plans radio wise for this track and we expect to see a lot more plays forthcoming across, bbc r1, 6 music, 1xtra, xfm and kiss fm.
taking us deeper into the night are the four remixes: london veteran seiji fuses house and garage for a 6 minute roller, dfas juan maclean delves into his deep house roots with his new peach melba project, london duo compound one pay homage to gabriels uk garage roots with sweet old school 2 step and hyperdubs ossie turns in a decidedly trippy uk funky hybrid.
joe goddard is surely one of the busiest men in the world of electronic music: writer and producer behind the world-conquering hot chip, acclaimed solo artist, travelsome dj, prolific remixer, one half of the emerging 2 bears house duo and one of the founding members of the greco-roman record label and party collective. goddards first solo material in 18 months should open with a chorus of angels, before title track >gabriel< strides confidently into familiar territory of londons clubland and its rich musical influences, this time goddard choosing gospel and house as his parameters to create a bone fide underground radio and club hit which currently sits on the bbc radio 1 playlist.
>testify< is the second single taken from boohgaloo zoos stunning self-titled debut album. u-gene goes all out on the vocals while the bassline and synth stabs are clearly in the business of tearing roofs off suckers. heavy 21st century funk! the remixes make sure that those who like to shake their behinds to something more up-tempo get with the program as well - soulphiction goes to work on the track not once but twice in a full-on boogie mix and one that is more on the minimal side, while hot chips joe goddard takes it to very late night club territories.
this is a limited 12inch vinyl release on kieran hebdens (four tet) text records label. 500 only for the world. two new remixes of one of the stand out tracks from the debut album by one little plane that came out last summer. the first mix is by avus who is one of the artists on james holdens border community label. a beautiful piece of melodic techno that has been getting lots of play at border community nights since late last year. the other remix is by joe goddard from hot chip. techno with a strong uk garage influence. following on from the amazing remixes he has done for everyone from gang gang dance to kraftwerk.
